Teaching and Learning is like going on a nature-hike

One of the coursework projects in my Reflective Professional Practice class was to create a personal philosophy that aligns with my approach to teaching and learning. My philosophy, “Teaching and learning is like going on a nature-hike,” is inspired by my love for the outdoors. I enjoy exploring forests, mountains, ravines, rivers, and other green spaces. These that challenge me, ground me, and energize me. This passion for nature motivated me to see each stakeholder through a hiking metaphor: the child as the hiker, the family as the backpack, the educator as the trail guide, the environment as the trail, and the community as the forest. Each plays a meaningful role in the learning journey.

Professor's Feedback
"Wow! You have produced a vision board that is informative, insightful and very aesthetically pleasing. The imagery compliments your metaphor nicely and your ideas are very clearly expressed throughout. I love that you wove the curriculum model into all areas rather than addressing it as a stand alone section. This shows me that you truly are committed to emergent curriculum. Your examples were also concrete and illuminated your thinking in all areas.
Well done!"
